Germany were made to sweat despite their overall dominance as they secured a 3-2 victory against Australia in their Confederations Cup Group B clash in Sochi.

The 2014 World Cup winners got off to the perfect start, scything through their opponents inside five minutes as Lars Stindl slotted home from inside the box from Julian Brandt’s cutback.

Australian then got more than their fair share of fortune as Tom Rogic saw his 41st minute shot deflect perfectly back into his path to fire past Bernd Leno in the German goal.

They were level for just three minutes after Julian Draxler converted from the penalty spot following Massimo Luongo’s foul on Leon Goretzka in the box.

It was Goretzka who made it 3-1 after the break, and although Tomi Juric hit back to set up an interesting final half hour, Joachim Low’s side held on for the win.
