Habs’ Roy out indefinitely with undisclosed injury

Montreal Canadiens rookie forward Joshua Roy is out indefinitely after sustaining an injury in Tuesday night’s game.

Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced Wednesday that Roy is heading back to Montreal for further evaluation after blocking a shot with his right hand in the third period of the Habs’ 4-3 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

Roy reportedly had an X-ray after the game, the results of which are unknown.

Roy, 20, had four goals and five assists in 23 games this season. He had 32 points (13 goals, 19 assists) in 40 games with the AHL’s Laval Rocket before debuting with the Habs on Jan. 13.

The Habs selected Roy in the fifth round of the 2021 draft.
