Geraint Thomas says that the sacrifice of being away from his family in the final years of his career has paid off with a podium finish in the Giro D’Italia.

Thomas took to the podium in the shadow of the Coliseum in Rome to claim his third place prize with son Macs by his side.

The Welsh rider says he’ll celebrate with some pizza and beer but will quickly turn his attention to the Tour de France, which begins in June.
