England began their summer tour with a dominant 52-17 win — that featured eight tries — over Eddie Jones’ Japan in Tokyo on Saturday.
Marcus Smith was central to England’s win, with the fly-half scoring 13 points. He scored a try and also created ones for Immanuel Feyi-Waboso and Henry Slade.
England led 26-3 at the break through four first half tries, with the first coming through Chandler Cunningham-Smith, who impressed on his first Test start.
Alex Mitchell, Ben Earl and Harry Randall added further tries in the second half before Koga Nezuka scored Japan’s first try after the hour mark. Takuya Yamasawa added another minutes later to give the home fans something to cheer about.
The only blip for England was the red card to Charlie Ewels in the 77th minute, which was upgraded from a yellow, for ramming into Michael Leitch. The red card could see him miss England’s upcoming tour of New Zealand.
