Josh Tarling has signed a three-year contract extension to keep him at Ineos Grenadiers until at least 2027.

Welsh rider Tarling, now 20, agreed his first deal with the team as an 18-year-old amateur in 2022, before turning professional the following year.

In 2023 he won time trial gold at the European Road Race Championships, followed by a surprise bronze at the World Championships in Glasgow.

In Ineos colours this season, Tarling won the opening stage of the four-day O Gran Camino stage race in Spain and took second place in the time trial at the eight-day Criterium du Dauphine.

“I am now two seasons into my pro career, and I am loving every minute of it,” said the rider from Aberaeron in west Wales.

“Obviously, there is still loads to learn and improve upon over the coming years, but I am glad to be doing that as a Grenadier surrounded by riders like G (Geraint Thomas), Pippo (Filippo Ganna) and Egan (Bernal). It really makes you feel like you’re learning from the best.

“We have a dynamic, world-class group of riders with a lot to prove and that just fuels me to keep working hard and explore my limits across time trials, the Classics, and hopefully soon Grand Tours.”

Tarling is not riding the 2024 Tour de France alongside fellow Welshman Thomas, with his main focus for the second half of the year representing Team GB in both the time trial and road race at this summer’s Paris Olympic Games.

Ineos performance director Scott Drawer said: “Josh is an incredible athlete and one of the most promising young talents in cycling.

“A big career lies ahead of him, and we are 100% committed to giving him the support he needs to live up to the expectations he has for himself and fulfil his potential.”
