Draymond injures calf in return, to have MRI

NBA

SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors star power forward Draymond Green was ruled out for the remainder of Saturday’s game against the Washington Wizards with left calf tightness.

Green had just returned from a three-game absence due to illness and a back issue when he hobbled off the floor and went back to the locker room three minutes into the game. It wasn’t long after Green left the game, with nine minutes left in the first quarter, that the Warriors ruled out their defensive star player.

Since opening the season with a 12-3 start, the Warriors have been in a slump. They lost 17 of their previous 25 games entering Saturday.

If Green has to miss extended time, the Warriors will be shorthanded once again. Jonathan Kuminga has been out with an ankle injury since Jan. 4 and guard Brandin Podziemski has been out with an abdominal injury.

The Warriors face Boston on Monday afternoon as the first of four games next week. Green averaged 8.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.6 assists entering Saturday’s game.
