Boston Red Sox right-hander Garrett Whitlock has been reinstated from the 15-day injured list to make his season debut in Tuesday’s road game against the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Whitlock, 26, underwent right hip surgery last September and started this season on the injured list.
He posted a 4-2 record with six saves and a 3.45 ERA in 31 games (nine starts) last season.
Entering his third season, Whitlock is 12-6 with eight saves and a 2.73 ERA in 77 appearances (nine starts).
To make room for Whitlock, right-hander Kutter Crawford was optioned to Triple-A Worcester following Boston’s 1-0 loss to Tampa Bay on Monday.
