England’s Jamie George suffers injury before Six Nations

Rugby

England prop Jamie George limped out of Sarcens’ 32-24 defeat to Castres in the Champions Cup on Sunday, just weeks before the 2025 Six Nations tournament is set to begin.

George was replaced as England captain by Maro Itoje when Steve Borthwick announced his squad for the annual tournament on Tuesday, and his participation now looks uncertain, although the extent of the injury is yet to be determined.

“Jamie has hurt his hamstring,” Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall said. “We’re not quite sure how serious it is at the moment.”

It will come as unwelcome news for Borthwick, with England already without winger Immanuel Feyi‑Waboso, flanker Sam Underhill and full-back George Furbank due to injuries.

England will spend next week in Girona, Spain at a warm weather training camp ahead of the tournament. Their first game will be against Ireland in Dublin on Feb. 1.
